The Festival of the Great North Wood will be a celebration of the Wood’s vast history and wildlife with a chance to learn more about why it’s so special. Join a guided walk and find out about local birds, pond life, and butterflies. Witness a spectacular falconry display, a giant interactive bubble show, or get stuck into the games museum. There will be plenty of activities for all the family including face painting, crafts, and music.
Have you ever wondered how a Tiny Forest benefits your community? Find out how by attending your local Tiny Forest Community Science Hour!
Meet Tom Moulton and Peter Robinson at the Ladywell Cemetery gate on 24th April at 2:30pm for an informative walk around the cemeteries observing the copious amounts of wild flowers, birds and, hopefully, butterflies.
We know so many people absolutely loved the successful 2021 festival, it was extremely popular and so much fun! Perhaps you browsed the stalls, kept the kids busy with the funfair and woodland stage or just soaked up the atmosphere listening to the live music on the main stage? It was an amazing event and we'd like it to happen again! However, our wonderful annual festival is in danger of not running this year as we're very low on volunteers. We also need a passionate secretary to help with the general admin throughout the year.
Thank you for all of your help during 2021. It was lovely to have a relatively normal year after the cancellations of 2020.
Local Councillors voted at a meeting last week to endorse the new plan called, ‘A Natural Renaissance 2021-2026’. The plan sets out how Lewisham's Biodiversity Partnership (LBP) will work with the Council, the local voluntary and community sector and other partners over the next five years to help protect local wildlife, plants and natural habitats.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have to cancel the open day on Saturday 25th September. We hope to be open again on Saturday 30th October. Apologies for those who were hoping to come.
Thank you all who joined our meeting last week. We had a very busy agenda starting with a presentation by Steve Bolton from Butterfly Conservation about their new 4-year project, Big City Butterflies. There are many opportunities to get involved in the project (e.g. receiving training, organising events, get advice on habitat management) so please find further details in the presentation attached and contact Steve (sbolton@butterfly-conservation.org) directly if you would like to be involved in any activities.
It has been a long time since Nature's Gym has been able to function normally, but we are pleased to announce that from July 2021, we will be back to full strength! If you are new to volunteering with us please email Jess who would be happy to send you all the relevant details. This will include information about how to join and the current programme. If you are one of our regulars, you will receive a new programme shortly. This will no longer be on a booking system, but we will ask you to confirm if you are coming or not to make it easier to plan tasks and work.
