Volunteers & Supporters Needed

Devonshire Road Nature Reserve

dev rd shelter

Volunteers building a Green-Oak shelter at Devonshire Road Nature Reserve

The winter and early spring is a busy time for maintenance and preparation at the Reserve; it’s the time where we can assess and improve the site before the summer growth and our busy time for visitors. This year we’ve been doing tree and brushwood removal around the edges of our meadows and improving the paths. We have a steady band of volunteers but we’re always looking for more. Tasks can be as light or as heavy as you fancy, from pruning shrubs to felling trees.

Plans are afoot for events this spring and summer, culminating in the Festival in the Forest on 5th July; the festival is in its 4th year now and goes from strength to strength with nearly 500 visitors last year watching the musicians and bands on two stages and enjoying the food and drink on offer in the beautiful surroundings of the reserve. There are also regular ‘Muddy Boots’ sessions for pre-school children and watercolour classes every week. The reserve is always open on the last Sunday afternoon in the month, but other events can be found at our website;

The Friends of Devonshire Road Nature Reserve (FDRNR) have been running the site for 15 years now and made huge improvements over those years; the current committee of 7 volunteers are really committed to the reserve and we’ve been awarded the Green Pennant year after year, but we are in desperate need of someone to help run our website and publicity; if your skill is with a computer rather than a bow-saw or a spade, please contact us or come to our AGM on Sunday 22nd March and meet the crew; we’d love to have you on board.
