At the prestigious The London Tree and Woodland Awards, otherwise known as the Tree Oscars, STfL was presented with the Community Tree Award at an online presentation today.
The Community Tree Award category is awarded to street tree planting projects that are inspired, driven, and delivered by local community groups.
In its twelfth year, the Tree Oscars celebrates the work of individuals, communities and professionals to protect, improve and expand the capital’s tree and woodland cover, inspire others to manage trees and woodlands and raise the profile of London’s trees and the need for management.
Xanthe Mosley, Chair and one of the pioneers of Street Trees for Living, said: “We are thrilled to receive this recognition from the Forestry Commission. This is thanks to our great team who have done all the award winning work. I want to especially thank Lewisham Council who have been brilliant in facilitating this tree planting project. Our work has had a huge impact on making the streets of Lewisham greener and has created significant awareness of the positive impacts of trees. Since we started the project in 2012, we have been able to raise over £200,000, enough to plant a 1000 trees. It’s great to see how trees are taking hold of the streets in South East London.”
