A message from the Friends of Brockley & Ladywell Cemteries

Dear Friends and colleagues,

The Friends of Brockley and Ladywell Cemeteries (FoBLC) is this year celebrating the 10th anniversary of its formation.  Over the last few years FoBLC has held an Open Day within the cemetery to promote this beautiful, peaceful and historic Victorian landscape – leading tours of the cemetery, mounting an exhibition giving information on the history of the cemetery, its memorials, famous persons interred there, current and future conservation work, its flora and fauna. We also sell refreshments and publications. The aim is to enable visitors to gain an insight into the history of the cemetery, discover its beauty and its importance to the Brockley and Ladywell environs.

This year, in conjunction with Lewisham Borough Council, we are planning to hold a larger and more widely publicised event on Sunday 9th July (from 11 am to 4.30 pm) and we would like to invite other local community and charity groups to participate by having stalls providing information on their activities and an opportunity  to raise funds.

The intention will be to provide a space for a stall (3m x 3m max), where participating groups can put up a gazebo and a table to display appropriate information.  Stall holders will need to provide their own gazebos, table, chairs etc. and due to the nature of the site should have suitable public liability insurance in place.

Currently we are finalising details with Lewisham regarding the event, but to help us with our planning, we would really appreciate it if you could let us know by 1st June  if, on a without commitment basis, you would be interested in taking part in our event.

  1. Would groups need to take out separate Public Liability Insurance to set up a stall? Presumably Brockley and Lady well Cemeteries has ongoing PLI cover?
