Resources

On this page you will find a number of useful resources to help you run sessions in our parks and nature reserves. They will also give you some guidance on the lessons that we can run for you.

We try to create lesson plans around the current curriculum and where possible incorporate any themes into the session that will assist with the pupils learning and development in the relevant Key Stages. If there is an aspect of the curriculum that you would like to incorporate in to outdoor learning or if there is anything that you would wish to add or modify, please let us know and we will try to accommodate you where possible. Sessions can include pond dipping, habitat walks, life cycles and mapping. Many of the sessions will cross reference with a number of subjects; Geography, Sciences, Mathematics and English.

Please feel free to download and print any of the resources on our blog pages. If you do use any of the them, please write to let us know and also we welcome any feedback you have on our sheets. Extra eyes are always good at spotting things we may have missed or where we may have made some mistakes. The children seem to be experts at this too!

Adaptation Worksheets

Animals can live in many different places (habitats). adaption is a way an animal’s body helps it survive or live in its environment (or its habitat). For example, Polar bears have long white fur to help protect them from the cold and for camouflage.

Foodchain Worksheets

A food chain shows how each living thing gets its food. Some animals eat plants, some animals eat other animals and some eat plants and other animals. A food chain always starts with plant life and ends with an animal.

Habitat Worksheets

A habitat is the home of an animal or a plant. It is where the plant or animal gets food, shelter, protection. They can be large like oceans – the world’s largest habitat or small like nests and burrows.

Living Things Worksheets

All living things follow a life cycle specific to their species. Some are very short such as a few hours or days while others last for hundreds of years. There is no start or end point, but rather a continuous flow (cycle) that includes fertilisation, birth, growth and reproduction.

Minibeast Worksheets

Children can learn about small invertebrates and habitats whilst exploring local green spaces. This is an excellent way of encouraging children to investigate the natural world and to enable them to use first hand experiences to find out more about the creatures in their local habitats.

Rocks and Soils Worksheets

Rocks come from magma, which is the molten material found within the earth. When magma cools, either above or below the earth’s surface, it crystallizes and forms the igneous rocks that can later be changed into metamorphic or sedimentary rocks.

River Worksheets

A diverse array of freshwater invertebrates and vertebrates can be found in (and on) the rivers of Lewisham. The River Ravensbourne channel in Ladywell Fields is particularly rich and offers a very accessible place to investigate some of this wildlife.

Tree Worksheets

Your local woodland is full of different HABITATS. Not all plants and animals like living in the same habitat. Some like cool, damp, places while others like dryer, lighter areas. Some nest high in the trees, others in holes in dead tree trunks. The more habitats in the woodland, the more different wildlife can live there.
