Join Paul Wood and us for a Tree and River Walk through Riverdale Sculptural Park, starting at Riverdale House and ending at Ladywell Station. This relaxing afternoon stroll will take you through the park’s sculptural landscape, across the Ravensbourne River, and among some of Lewisham’s most distinctive trees, including the celebrated Ladywell Elm, one of London’s official Great Trees.

Guided by local experts, we’ll stop along the route to explore the park’s rich ecological and cultural history, from its non-native trees with stories of migration and adaptation to community-led interventions along the river.

Why This Walk Matters

Ecology and arboriculture in the UK are often seen as homogenous fields, but trees hold deep cultural meanings for many different communities. Riverdale Park — with its diverse species and layered histories, offers an ideal setting to spark conversations about migration, identity, and belonging through nature.

This event also marks the first in a series of engagement sessions that bring together local residents, young people, and community groups. Each meeting will build upon the last, documenting experiences, exploring challenges, and amplifying a plurality of voices to inform the future design and stewardship of the park.
